Such a constellation does not exist
An essay on Lars von Trier's Antichrist, Melancholia & Nymphomaniac
Lars von Trier's trilogy of films about extreme mental states – Antichrist (2009), Melancholia (2011) and Nymphomaniac (2013) – undoubtedly constitute the Danish auteur's magnum opus. At the same time, each film is an uncompromising masterpiece in itself.
Such a constellation does not exist (whose title is made up of a line from Antichrist) presents analyzes of all three films. At the same time, it is shown how the films refer to each other and come to form a unified work. It is also pointed out to what extent all three films refer to other films and to literary and philosophical works. The book thus provides an inciting insight into von Trier's working method and artistic strategy.
